Israel bombs aid distribution center in Rafah
A Palestinian journalist has posted footage on his Instagram account showing the bloodstained floor of an aid distribution center run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Rafah in the south Gaza Strip.
At least one staff member was killed during the bombing earlier on Wednesday, according to the agency, and 22 others were injured.
“Today’s attack on one of the very few remaining UNRWA distribution centers in the Gaza Strip comes as food supplies are running out, hunger is widespread and, in some areas, turning into famine,” said UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.
The UN’s top emergency aid official said the killing of the UNRWA aid worker at the aid distribution center is “devastating” for crucial humanitarian relief deliveries in Gaza.
“How are we to maintain aid operations when our teams and supplies are constantly under threat? They must be protected,” Martin Griffiths posted on X. “This war has to stop.”
Israeli troops also fired on crowds of Palestinians gathered to collect flour in the southwest of Gaza City on February 29, killing at least 112 people and injuring some 760.
